DESCRIPTION
Kizingoni House is situated
at the southern tip of
Lamu
Island
on
Kizingoni
Beach
which stretches across 24 acres of beach front. The beach
is famous for its kilometers of
wild, untouched sea-shore and ancient sand dunes that has
recently been designated part of the Lamu World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The house has been built and positioned to take full advantage of the
west facing view for spectacular sunsets and sea views &
to catch the sea breezes throughout the year. It is set
into the remote & peaceful environment so that it has
maximum privacy.
The large central living/dining room is simply designed
in the Swahili style with traditional plasterwork and wooden mangati beams, with a magnificent locally crafted dining table.
There are 3 baraza (meeting/sitting)
areas - one next to the plunge pool, one on the roof and
one in the protected courtyard garden. The pool has a separate bathroom and changing room.
The house is furnished with traditional Swahili items of
furniture and antiques from around Africa and
Asia
.
ACCOMMODATION
The house has four en-suite double bedrooms with mosquito netting, fans and
private balconies with sea views. The large master bedroom faces west with
superb sea views framed by coconut palms. Its spacious bathroom
has a Swahili style bath and from the bedroom there is direct
access to the roof top patio and bar area.
ACTIVITIES
Activities available are snorkeling & swimming with dolphins, hand-line
fishing, dhow sailing & sundowners, water skiing, kite
surfing & visits to
Kipungani
Village & Lamu
Town
.
On prior appointment deep-sea fishing can be arranged.
Turtles lay their eggs on the beach where long walks are a joy.
