day trip

DAY 1
Depart
from Nairobi in the early morning by a minibus and head towards
Rift Valley region to the Rift Valley Lodge. Play a round
of golf, have lunch and then head back to Nairobi.
RIFT VALLEY
The
Rift Valley is the greatest valley in the world, a continental fault
system that stretches from the Dead Sea all the way to Mozambique.
In
Kenya it passes from Lake Turkana in the north to Lake Magadi in
the south. In between there are a series of lakes e.g. Baringo,
Bogoria, Nakuru, Elementeita and Naivasha. Lake Bogoria, Nakuru and Elementeita boast millions of flamingoes, which is a spectacular
sight. Volcanic activities left their mark in the Rift Valley and
can be found in form of half submerged islands, giant calderas and
the distinctive cone shapes which dot the landscape as well as dormant
volcanoes.
The
Rift Valley evokes a sense of immense mystery and the power of time.

Day-trip
on the South coast of Kenya |
Inclusive transfers from your hotel
|
A
new and completely different day-trip is now available on the South
coast of Kenya. Evolving out of a dolphin research project comes
an exciting opportunity for people to meet the dolphins frequenting
Kisiti Marine Park and Reserve.
This
area of the coast is home to two species of dolphins: one is the
hump-back, members of which are often seen in the Shimoni-Wasini
channel, another is a large school of spotted dolphins which are
particularly friendly - coming very close to our boat and even,
sometimes (if it is their play-time), allowing people to swim alongside
them in the water.
The
sailing dhows Al-Ikhlas, built on Lamu Island, and Subira,
built in northern Tanzania, are now taking people to see and interact
with the dolphins.
Locating
dolphins is the main focus of the trip, all of which will be spent
within areas where they are most likely to be found. When our guests
are enjoying snorkelling or island exploring, our dinghy will be
making patrols into other nearby areas regularly frequented by the
dolphins.
Besides
dolphins, guests of the Dolphin Dhow will have a chance to snorkel
on a shallow and protected reef with beautiful corals and abundant
marine life to rival even Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Underwater
viewing scopes are available for non-snorkeler’s. After a traditional
Swahili-style lunch on board, they will also have the chance to
explore one of the picturesque islands of the park and reserve before
finishing off the day with a peaceful and relaxing sail back to
Shimoni, wind permitting.
The
trip is escorted by at least one experienced member of the dolphin
team. The company's founders are English and Kenyan. German is spoken
and a French- speaking guide is available. An informal atmosphere
is created in which our guests will be provided with as much information
as possible.
The
trip if fully inclusive of all drinks, (sodas, mineral water, beer
and South African wine) snacks, lunch, teas, coffees, etc.
Free use of masks and snorkels is included.
